Frequently Asked Questions

How much LPG is in a 9kg cylinder?

9 kilograms of LP gas. At a regulated maximum of R32.50/kg, a full 9kg refill costs up to R292.50 (excluding the cylinder itself, which is a once-off deposit).

Why does the LPG price change so often?

LPG is priced off international propane/butane indices (mainly Saudi Aramco's monthly CP contract). The DMRE recalculates the SA cap every month based on those indices and the rand/dollar rate.

Is the LPG price regulated nationwide?

Yes, but the DMRE sets maxima, not fixed prices. Suppliers compete below the cap, and there are small zone differentials between coastal and inland delivery.

When does the LPG price change?

On the first Wednesday of each month. Next adjustment: Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
